Review of The Selection Series

I got this cute tote bag in the picture with my March Bookish Box. That box had a theme of sidekicks and the quote on the bag was from Marlee Tames who is one of the girls that is part of the selection and becomes best friends with the main character.

This series was a bit of a cross between The Bachelor and The Hunger Games. Only more like the Bachelor. Not nearly as much killing as The Hunger Games but the futuristic world is somewhat the same. This story is set in a futuristic world. This world is ruled by a king and queen and there is a caste system. Those with a lower number have the most money and best jobs while those with a higher number are barely scraping by. America's family is a 5. They are artists and musicians. When the royal family hosts a selection inviting all of the girls in the country to participate, America is encouraged by her boyfriend and mother to participate. Her name is selected and she is thrown into a contest with other girls from around the country that are all trying to win the prize of marrying the prince.

These books are all super quick reads. I wanted a fun break and this was it for me. At times I really hated America's character. She was very wishy washy but this series is very addictive. I ended up really enjoying it and reading all of the books in a couple days. I did also read the two after this series that are set 20 years in the future but did not enjoy those at all. I would recommend these if you are looking for something fun to read. You can find out more about the series here.

Driftwood Bay

Driftwood Bay by Irene Hannon is a sweet and inspirational story. This is part of the Hope Harbor series but is the first one that I have read. I feel that this makes a good stand alone book but found myself becoming curious about the side characters in the story and would love to read the others in the series. Jeannette has created a new life for herself in the town of Hope Harbor. She owns a lavender farm and tea shop and spends most of her time alone. Her quiet world is shaken up when Logan moves in next door. Not only does he have a little girl, but also a trouble making dog that force their worlds to collide. Alongside the story of Jeannette and Logan is a beautiful and heartbreaking story of a family that has escaped persecution in Syria. Everyone in the story has their own heartbreak, but they all come together to create a new life and new relationships. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books from Irene Hannon.

Zen Camera

Photography is one of my hobbies so I always jump at the chance to check out new books on the topic. Zen Camera: Creative Awakening With a Daily Practice in Photograph y by David Ulrich uses Zen principles to teach people how to take better photographs. It also teaches an important lesson in today's busy world which is to slow down and take in our surroundings.  Zen Camera is split into six different lessons. My favorite part of these lessons is that at the end of each one is a tip that can be applied or something that the reader should go out and try. I have been interested in photography for quite a while and have read many books on the topic but I felt that this book had a fresh approach to photography.  Zen Camera is good for anyone starting out and using the camera on their phone or for more advanced photographers that are looking for inspiration. The book is full of gorgeous images and practical advice.  I received this book from Blogging for Books for this ...

Review: Songs About a Girl

The book that I just finished, I had actually picked up a couple of months ago and struggled to get into. I however picked it up yesterday and couldn't put it down. The book is Songs about a Girl by Chris Russell . This story is about a girl named Charlie who has an interest in photography and is contacted by a member of a boy band to take pictures backstage of the band. Charlie is reluctant because she does not believe she is good enough and does not have the same obsession towards the band as that of her best friend. She does however give it a chance and finds herself enjoying the band and getting closer to the members. She also finds out that she might have a bit more of a connection with one of the members than either of them truly know. This is the first book in a trilogy and it of course ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. However, we do not have to suffer long because the next story, Songs About Us, comes out on July 13th according to Goodreads . And a twitter account was c...
