I didn't make any resolutions this year. I never stick with them anyway. I'm not sure that anyone ever really does. I did cut out sugar but I did that right after Christmas so that it did not feel like a resolution. I want that to be permanent and there is just something about making goals at the beginning of the year that makes them more difficult to follow. There is one goal that I have decided to sign up for and that is the Goodreads reading challenge. I said that I would like to read 150 books this year. I feel a little behind as I have only completed 3 books the first week and know that my life is about to get busier as school starts again in a couple days. This somehow feels different to me as I know there will not be any guilt if I do not hit this number but it sounds like a good amount to shoot for. What are your goals for the year?
The Light Before Day by Suzanne Woods Fisher is the third book in her Nantucket Legacy series. I did not read the first book in the series but I did read the second when it came out earlier this year. While I enjoyed the continuation of characters, I feel that this could be a stand alone novel. When I read book two in the series, I found the language of the book to be a bit of a challenge. I will say that having already once been emerged in this world, I did not find that to be an issue with this book. The author does however include a handy list of definitions if some of the language is tricky. This book follows the twins Hitty and Henry who are now grown and receiving an inheritance from their grandmother that has a few stipulations attached. Along with the story of the characters growing and developing relationships, this book also covers important social issues of the time. This was a part of the book that I really enjoyed.
