The Girls' Guide to Conquering Life

The Girls' Guide to Conquering Life: How to Ace an Interview, Change a Tire, Talk to a Guy & 97 Other Skills You Need to Thrive by Erica & Jonathan Catherman is a how to manual for girls on a variety of life skills.

While some life skills may seem like simple things, they aren't unless we are first taught how to properly do them. I do remember learning some of these skills in school such as setting a table and checking the oil on a car but many of these items are not taught in basic curriculum.
I think this would be a great guide for girls that are about to graduate high school and go out on their own. I know there are a few skills in this book that I needed to call my mom about after I had moved out.

Now we live in an age of Google where is seems simple to look things up but I think this book touches on some basic manners that might otherwise be missed. Skills such as making introductions and how to behave if you are pulled over by the police are very important to learn. This is a great guide for any girl that is gaining more independence and needs to hone their life skills.

I received a copy of this book from Revell in exchange for my honest review.

A List of Cages

I was inspired by the February Bookish Box to read A List Of Cages by Robin Roe. There is an option to receive a book with the box and this was the book that was chosen for the month of February. While I did not receive a book with my box, the title was included with everything else that I received. I have not cried this much over a book in a long time. It is so heartbreaking. I think this story fit very well with the theme of friendship. Julian lost his parents when he was 8 or 9 and was put into foster care with Adam and his mother for 8 months. After that he was taken to a long lost uncle by marriage who was very abusive. Adam and Julian reconnect after Adam is asked by the school psychologist to hang out with him and find out why he is missing class. They end up building a beautiful friendship. Julian who does not feel worthy of anything finds a place among Adam's group. I feel like there were still a lot of loose ends at the ending but it ends on a hopeful note. The story end...

Driftwood Bay

Driftwood Bay by Irene Hannon is a sweet and inspirational story. This is part of the Hope Harbor series but is the first one that I have read. I feel that this makes a good stand alone book but found myself becoming curious about the side characters in the story and would love to read the others in the series. Jeannette has created a new life for herself in the town of Hope Harbor. She owns a lavender farm and tea shop and spends most of her time alone. Her quiet world is shaken up when Logan moves in next door. Not only does he have a little girl, but also a trouble making dog that force their worlds to collide. Alongside the story of Jeannette and Logan is a beautiful and heartbreaking story of a family that has escaped persecution in Syria. Everyone in the story has their own heartbreak, but they all come together to create a new life and new relationships. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books from Irene Hannon.

Shift Your Thinking For Success

I read a lot of self-help/self-improvement books and often find myself disappointed when a book has the same message that I have read time and time again. Shift Your Thinking For Success: 77 Ways to Win at Work and in Life by Dean Del Sesto is a self-help book that stands out from the crowd . As the title implies, this book is split up into the 77 different tidbits of advice. These ideas range from healthy living to being successful in all parts of our life. What I love about this book is that the author gets personal with his message and is honest in the lessons that he has learned and how they have helped him. I found myself wanting to highlight multiple sections to check back on them when I am needing inspiration. One of the sections that really stood out to me was on the topic of integrity. In this section the author has a list of 25 different ways in which we can show integrity in our daily lives. Some of these ideas, such as showing respect to the clerk at the store, seem so ...
